International Open Access Week takes place from October 21st – 27th. This year’s theme “continues the call to put Community over Commercialisation and prioritise approaches to open scholarship that serve the best interests of the public and the academic community”.
This Open Access Week, IReL presented an overview this of the current OA agreements at Maynooth University, and a wider assessment of Open Access publishing trends in Ireland and around the world.
We also revisited the important work of the National Open Access Monitor, which was launched in March 2024 by IReL, National Open Research Forum & OpenAIRE. The Monitor provides a cornerstone in Ireland’s move towards a fully open access research ecosystem and has been very well received by the Irish research community. The Monitor will also support the shift towards transparency and accessibility of Irish research publications, and track Ireland’s goal of 100% of publicly funded research being Open Access by 2030.
