WordPress is a free and open-source content management system. WordPress is not an ORCID-enabled system and (to our knowledge) no ORCID members are integrating with WordPress through custom member API integrations.
There are currently two WordPress ORCID plugins:
- ORCID WordPress Plugin: https://github.com/ServerDotBiz/orcid. This displays ORCIDs in comments and posts, but does not contain authentication of ORCID iDs (only manual entry of iDs) and is therefore not recommended.
- WordPress OAuth & OpenID Connect Single Sign-On (SSO) Plugin: https://plugins.miniorange.com/orcid-single-sign-on-wordpress-sso-oauth-openid-connect. This enables secure login into WordPress using ORCID as OAuth and OpenID Connect provider. The plugin uses the ORCID Public API, and therefore any user interactions will not be tracked in your Member Reports. While the login process is based on authenticated ORCID iDs, no permissions are obtained to read or write to ORCID records.
As WordPress is open source, these plugins can be updated and developed upon. If you would like help in developing a custom WordPress module to enable ORCID member API integration according to ORCID best practices, please contact the Irish ORCID Consortium Lead.
