Open Repositories Ireland (ORI) is a network dedicated to advancing open research practices and repository services across Ireland.
Community Network
ORI provides a collaborative platform
ORI is for open repository managers and practitioners to share knowledge, develop best practices, and advocate for open research supported by their institutional research ecosystems.
ORI promotes, supports, and develops open repositories and repository staff through networking, training, and advocacy. By joining ORI, institutions and the repository community will contribute to shaping the future of open research in Ireland and achieving the goal of 100% open access.
History
ORI is an outcome of a two-year project funded by the National Open Research Forum’s 2022 Open Research Fund. Led by the University of Galway, the project brings together a consortium of fourteen institutional and organisational partners to enhance Ireland’s open repository landscape.
The project focused on auditing Ireland’s open repository environment and piloting a standardised approach for repository management across Ireland. Rather than building new technical infrastructure, the project aims to address metadata and support challenges directly at the source repository level. By aligning the fragmented national repository policies and standards, the project is creating a cohesive national roadmap for open repositories in Ireland.
Membership
ORI membership is open to all individuals in Ireland who are involved in operating or developing open repositories and are interested in promoting open research and repository best practices. Membership is not available to publishers and commercial providers.
Members can include individuals actively engaged in repository management or development and/or appointed at the discretion of the Committee in recognition of their contributions to the field.
Roles and Responsibilities of ORI Members
Members of ORI are expected to participate in the network’s development and activities actively. Specifically, members should:
- Engage proactively with ORI initiatives and ongoing work.
- Contribute actively to the network’s projects, including those outside regular meetings, while maintaining their roles within their respective institutions.
- Represent their institution within ORI, sharing relevant professional and institutional experiences.
- Communicate the work of ORI back to their home institution and encourage broader participation and support for ORI activities.
